20 Fun Essay Topics for High School Students

Developing fun essay topics for a class can sometimes be a challenge. Students want to learn the skills to become good writers but they also want to enjoy the assignment enough that they are driven to work hard through each stage. We’ve made the process of finding fun essay topics easier and have developed a list of twenty. Choose any one of these or use them to inspire some ideas of your own:

  1. Should teachers be forced to take detention when students do not perform well in class?
  2. How should grades be given? Should there even be grades? If not, what would be your alternative?

  14. What role should students have in deciding the kinds of foods that are served during lunch? Should students also have control over vending machine options?
  15. If you could get rid of three academic subjects and replace them with three new ones, what would they be?
  16. If you could truly represent your school’s character and spirit through a specific mascot, what would the mascot be?
  17. Can you provide reasons for a shorter school week with longer days or for a longer week with shorter days?
  18. What’s the biggest change you would make to your campus’ culture? Do you think you would meet any resistance?
