A descriptive essay is one that does what it sounds like it does. It describes something to your reader. When you are choosing a topic to write your papers on, you would want to choose a topic that you can paint a picture with your words about. You would want to try and invoke all of the senses through your words. Tell your reader what it smelled like, what it looked like, what it tasted like if possible, what it sounded like, and what it felt like. Since this isn’t a paper for high school, you may want to choose a topic that is a little more advanced than a paper on your first day of school. However, you can write about simple things that happen in your everyday life if you make sure to really describe it so that your audience experiences it.
Think about a topic that you can describe so well that you can actually picture it. Something that is so vivid to you that you can simply close your eyes and feel like you are right there. You can describe how the air felt on the first day of summer after a long winter. Your mouth watered over the smell of chicken on the grill. Here are some ways to come up with a great topic for this paper.
The one that you can describe the best will be the one that you use. Can you talk about all of the senses? If not, then try to think of some time when you could talk about it. A great example to think about is the summer. You can taste the ice cream, feel the warmth from the sun, smell the flowers, feel the wind blowing against your face, and see people enjoying the weather.
