What are the Qualities that Make a Good Interior Designer?
A career in interior design will require you to undergo formal education in an accredited interior design school and earn a degree after finishing the program. In this case, there are a lot of factors that determine the kind of interior designer you will become and that includes the school you will attend, the courses and professors you will take, and the passion you have to become one of the best designers.

However, it is still not enough for you to receive a great education about interior design and undergo rigorous training to prepare you for an interior design career. Most of the time, it depends on whether you have the right qualities or not. These qualities cannot be thought or simply developed over time because they come natural to the person, which automatically makes him qualified to take up an interior design program.

Below is a list of traits and qualities that a naturally good interior designer has:

  • Creativity – There are interior designers that follow the canon of design in which there are perfect in accordance to the standards of interior design law. These designers are not bad by any stretch, but on the other hand, they won’t offer you something fresh and unique that will not only help clients with providing new alternatives in how to approach their vision for their interior spaces, but also brew excitement in the design world. Therefore, an interior designer must be creative and conceptualize design ideas outside the box for the betterment of their clients and interior design in general.
  • Ability to handle stress and problems – Problems of interior designers involve the following: meeting the demands of both clients and building code, developing a design that their clients will hopefully like, having to deal with difficult clients most of the time, handling different projects all at the same time, designing your concepts using CAD, and a whole lot more. Some would simply shudder at the thought of multitasking as if they will be pacifying a bull in a china shop. However, real interior designers take the problems by the horn and get things under control. They must enjoy working on designs in the wee hours of the evening and compromise sleep for the sake of getting the job done and done well.
  • Sound business sense – As the smoke clears after you graduate from interior design school, designers will find out that developing interior spaces is a business venture. Unless they have other sources of income, it is through interior design that designers will primarily generate profit. Therefore, people should know how to put a premium on their works. Not to mention, designers must know how to market themselves and drive their stock in the job market to either get hired by a successful design firm or collect a list of clients.
  • People person – In relation to having a sound business sense in interior design, people must also know how to mingle and engage in small talks with potential clients. One of the primary reasons behind successful business transactions is the ability of the person to analyze the personality of the other to his or her advantage in the business aspect. Prospective designers must learn how to create opportunities for themselves by convincing people that you are the most appropriate designer for the job. This can be done by befriending the clients but still remain a professional relationship all throughout.

These qualities, although not really necessary in bringing the success interior designers would want for them, are factors that definitely help designers to achieve success faster and quicker. Again, the traits mentioned above come naturally for some people and cannot be learned, so if you feel that you have the aforementioned traits, then interior design will be a great fit for you.
