Plan for Your Interior Design Program |
|
High school students have a huge responsibility in deciding which course to take in college. Ideally, the college course they plan to take is going to be their career path in the future. Therefore, it will be beneficial to take up a course that will bring them great profit once they grow up and put up their own businesses. For people who have chosen an interior design program as their course, money won’t be a problem since designers are quite in demand nowadays, thanks to the value put on the aesthetics of one’s home. Still, future college students must ensure that an interior design program is the right one for them.
Assess your talents
For students, ask yourselves this question: where am I good at? Interior designers are fairly creative and have a great eye for detail, qualities that are highly helpful in designing a particular space and deciding the materials, color, and furniture to use. Not to mention, interior designers ultimately deal with people and meet their requirements for their rooms. In case you feel you are not comfortable with your creative skills, consult your academic advisers to get further evaluation of your skills and talents. Spend as much time in deciding if an interior design program is right for you because your future hinges on this decision.
Foresee your career
Once you have assessed your talents, list down the possible careers that you can branch out from in an interior design program. Assuming that you do earn an interior design degree, you can work for a design firm or become an independent contractor where you manager your clients at your own time and behest. In case the interior design program doesn’t pan out, there are offshoot courses of design that you may want to try out in the middle of your college years such as architecture, interior decoration, fine arts, and the like. The purpose of preparing yourself scenarios that will take place in the future is to see whether you are comfortable with them happening to you. If you really like interior design, then anything that may happen won’t faze you. If you are still having doubts in pursuing an interior design program, then rethink your approach with your course.
Other considerations
Here are other questions that you must ask yourself to decide if interior design program is the best fit for your future:
- Will I grow not only as a worker, but also as a person?
- Will it enrich my life?
- Can I defend my decision in choosing this course even if my family or loved ones say otherwise?
- What are the regrets that I will have when I take this program? Do the positives outweigh the negatives?
- How do I see myself 8-10 years from now?
