Interior Design Scholarships: Helping Out Interior Design Students in Need
Interior design schools are not easy on the budget. Although students are provided with the materials and working environment to practice their craft, an interior design degree commands at around $6,000- $10,000 after semester, leaving students and their financiers a hole in their pockets. Because of this, students will feel discouraged in pursuing their dreams as an interior designer and are forced to take up a cheaper but different course.

However, students can actually unburden themselves of the taxing tuition fee and apply for interior design scholarships and financial aid. The purpose of interior design scholarships is to provide students who cannot afford proper education an opportunity to study for a particular course while spending little or no money at all.

Before people immediately run off to their nearest interior design school and apply for a scholarship, it must be said that there are strict requirements implemented by the program to ensure that they are giving the opportunity to the right person. Usually, scholarship programs require the students to have at least finished their second year, displayed financial needs, great academic standing, exceptional character, and the ability to maintain both characteristics until they graduate from the school. There are many other requirements that other programs demand from their students, but having both academic and behavioral excellence will definitely help your cause.

Below is a list of schools that offer a variety of scholarships for students:

University of Cincinnati School of Architecture and Interior Design

Students are given the option to apply for interior design scholarships online or my traditional means. One of their scholarship programs is the Knoll, Inc. and Contract Interiors of Cincinnati Scholarship, in which an interior design student is given $1,000 if he or she is able to maintain a GPA of 3.0 during the third or fourth year of study. Also, the HIXSON Architecture Engineering Interiors Scholarship Fund in Honor of Harry J. Bothwell will grant $2,500 annually for undergraduate students from first for fourth year with excellent academic attainment and are in need of financial aid.

The New York School of Interior Design

The interior design scholarships for this school range are available for both undergraduates and graduates. Undergraduates are usually awarded with programs such as the Ruth Bart Scholarship, Barbara Bernie Scholarship, and Charlotte Moss Scholarship if they have the creative potential to become one of the best interior designers in the futures. So graduate students, the choices are limited to the Rubén de Saavedra Fellowship, the Jean Chisholm Lindsey Fellowship, the Mark Hampton Fellowships, and Trustee Assistanceship.

It is interesting to point out how some interior design scholarships are named after the school’s alumni and alumnus. This clearly shows how much design means to these people that they are willing to take money out from their own pockets and provide capable students with all the resources they need to not only finish their interior design degree, but also give their families a better and brighter future.
