In the world of Interior Design, obtaining a degree is much better than obtaining a diploma. Most employers and individuals who are considering buying an Interior Designer want to make sure they are getting someone who is very qualified to complete the job. This is often more important than just finding the person who will offer them the lowest possible price for the work.

You can get a diploma for completing an Interior Design course or attending a workshop but in many aspects it doesn’t qualify you as having enough knowledge to do the quality of work they may be looking for.

Some Interior Design trade schools offer certificates upon completing the program. This is a step above a diploma. Many individuals who complete an Interior Design trade school program are qualified to get a job as an Interior Design Assistant. This type of position can pay approximately $20 per hour. Most trade school Interior Design certificate programs can be completed in 1 ½ years or less.

Earning a degree in Interior Design shows that you have been interested in the concepts of Interior Design for quite some time. An Associates Degree takes 2 years, a Bachelor’s Degree 4 years, and a Master’s Degree 6 years. In this amount of time there are plenty of important concepts taught in the classroom to prepare the individual for a variety of different projects.

Some of the different areas that Interior Design degree that you will cover include comparing the various types of fabrics and learning how to offer swatches as samples to potential customers, estimating costs for a job so that you can make a profit and cover the cost of the materials, how to include the customers style and unique taste into the overall design, drawing up floor plans and layouts using various types of computer software, window treatments, mixing and matching furniture. As you can see there are plenty of areas that need to be studies in depth t become a well qualified Interior Designer.

It is very important that you complete an Interior Design program from an accredited college. This will help you complete a comprehensive portfolio throughout your education that you can put to use immediately in the work force. This is a compilation of the various work projects you have done over the course of your education.

Be very careful about those online Interior Design programs offered. While it can be convenient to complete the program from your home you need to realize you will be missing out on plenty of hands on opportunities. Many of them don’t offer you a diploma, certificate, or degree so you have nothing to prove you have completed the course.
