Curriculum Details

The design program in the University of Cincinnati presents a mix of general education courses, which will teach the fundamentals of interior design, and professional courses, which include searching solutions for design problems in order to practice the critical thinking and communication abilities of students.

Both these types of courses are taken up during the first two years of the students, after which they will be immersed in undertaking different design projects to further develop their creativity in actual practice of interior design. Students of this design program will be asked to partake in a co-op work that will cover their second to fifth year in the degree.

Once students enter their senior year, they will have to put their acquired knowledge to the test by choosing a two-quarter design project.

Program Information

Interior Design School - University of Cincinnati This five-year course in Interior Design offered by the University of Cincinnati aims to cover a broad spectrum of topics that will help students launch their designing career in the future. However, unlike most interior design schools that are slow to introduce students to the actual practice of design, the design program in this university is quick to thrust students into the challenges and obstacles faced by professional designers. After tackling the foundations of effective interior design such as problem discovery, critical thinking, and verbal communication, the program immediately puts the knowledge and skills of the students to the test with actual design problems in accordance to their level.

The Interior Design Program has hired some of the best and most respective designers from all over the world including Nigeria, Germany, Australia, and many others. Also, their area of specialty include sustainable design, building morphology, post-occupancy evaluation, universal design, historical and contemporary theory, and a whole lot more. Suffice to say, their expertise regarding the subject (almost all faculty members are registered designers) and the cultural diversity exhibited from the faculty are proofs for a varied and well-rounded interior design education.
